60 +1

Kind of glad the big birthday is over. Hard to focus on celebrating. Warm and humid day. Worked,  early morning yoga, dinner with Glen.  Hoping to post daily for the next year.  Will settle on some things to tick off the bucket list.  Mammogram done. Tonight celebrating with NEF at the Boat House in Hartford. Health, activity, growth, wisdom.
Post event: motivated by the young man who was shot in the back and now partially paralyzed. What a bright disposition. Be thankful, and really get to know the people you spend your days with.

10k training starts today

Day 23 of the 100 Days Challenge down. It's been frigid, snowy, just too cold to run outside. My yoga class got me through 3 days last week, but I had to start my training today and Jill gave me a nudge so outside it was.  She warned me it was 7 degrees out but it wasn't really.  So I was overdressed but that was a pleasant surprise. We got in our 3 mile easy run and the sticker is in place on my chart.

So if I'm to make it through the next week of lousy forecasts I think it's time I started that 3 month membership at New England Athletic or whatever it's called now (still Champions in my book.) Will go tomorrow to sign up and be initiated. Figure if I go twice a week it'll be worth my while.

Snow Day!

A very rare occurrence I'm told. Wesleyan closed due to weather conditions today. Woke up to about 10" of snow with another 6-12 predicted.  It'll take a while to dig out from under this beautiful white blanket.

Sticking to my goal of finishing the 100 Days Challenge. Day 11 yesterday - a bunch of us met after work on campus and ran 3.25 miles. Cold out but not windy and once we got going we were ok. Met for dinner at New England Emporium on Main Street, Middletown. Really cute new restaurant. Crepes and such.  After 5 PM you can bring in your own wine. Cozy, good food, and fun.

100 Days of Movement

Jenny Hadfield and John Bingham challenged the running community.  I accepted the challenge to move for 30 minutes for 100 consecutive days. Beginning January 1, 2011.

    December 2010

Well, the Christmas holiday is winding down, the house is quiet again. Taking a few minutes each day to pack away the decorations and clean up.  Looking forward to a few down days before getting back to work on January 4th.  Just finished putting my 2011 list together  - includes being better about updating here.  List includes running goals, travel goals, household goals.  Also have a list of things I'd like to do to celebrate my 60th year. Will share more in January.
The year 2010 was full of good fun. Ran my first 10k, found a great group of women to run with. Next year I want to focus on physical things - hiking, diet, working outside. Hope to be better at communicating (thank you skype!)
    Review of last year's goals:
    • Run a race out of state SF in January
    • Run a 5K in 30 minutes or less  not even close! Well, 32:25 so not bad
    • Train for and run a 10K check
    • Work on upper body strength (kettlebells) - will try again
    • Run 50 miles in 30 days  YES!
    • Enter at least 6 races  I think it was 5 but ran some pseudo races with Fleet Feet
    • Bicycle after dinner during the summer  Nope
